The Phantom Tollbooth ( Chapters 1-13; Pgs- 160)

Milo came home to a huge box just sitting in the middle of his room. Inside that box sits a tollbooth. In The Phantom Tollbooth, by Norton Juster, a young, bored boy, Milo, finds himself in a magical world after transporting through a tollbooth. He is in the Kingdom of Wisdom and meets two friends, Tock and the Humbug. The trio is on a journey to save Princess Rhyme and Princess Reason, for that is what King Azaz told them to do. On the way, the group faces many tasks and challenges which if completed, get them one step closer to the princesses. I can’t wait to finish the next half of the book soon!

Catching Fire (391 pages)

There are twelve unfortunate events in the arena, each happening twice a day. In Catching Fire, by Suzanne Collins, Katniss, Peeta, and Haymitch learn that two of them, a male and female, will be competing in the Quarter Quell or 75th Hunger Games. This rule automatically enters Katniss. It turns out, the Head Gamekeeper, Plutarch Heavensbee, is really on the side of the districts, not the Capitol, and tries to help the tributes plan their escape. The only problem is that Katniss and Peeta don’t know about the arrangement until it happens. Read the book to see if the escape plan works or the Gamekeeper and tributes are caught.

What I learned from my Anciet Science "project"

For my ancient science project, I did the civilization of Egypt even though I am from Israel. Since I spent most of my life there working as a slave, it was an appropriate choice. My subject was math, specifically the counting and measuring systems. I learned that there are symbols for each number. For instance, instead of writing "1000" one would write a symbol of a flower. Then when writing 100,000, one could draw a tadpole and the Egyptians would understand. I also learned about how the measuring system was adjusted to the pharaohs body. A cubit, for example, would be the distance from the tip of the middle finger to the elbow. After realizing how inefficient the system was because everyone's body is different, the Egyptians made standard measuring lengths.

UCLA!!!

I have always been fascinated by college. Living away from home, staying up late, then I realized it's still school!!! I was pleased to know that there are so many majors. I have always been worried My career wouldn't fit into one!! After Detective Trejo came in I got a idea. That idea was to become a detective or FBI agent! I think it would be a fun job to have. I found a major that would fit even though it's not at UCLA and that is Criminology!

Today in Science Lab, we learned about how much we come in contact with petroleum products and plastic. We had a worksheet in which we circled every petroleum product in a kitchen. In the end the whole kitchen was circled! From this I learned, before someone even gets to the bus stop, they have already come in contact with hundreds of plastics or petroleum products!! At first, I thought "whats the big deal about plastics and petroleum products?" Well the deal is they can actually harm us. After this lab, I am trying to cut down on plastic and petroleum products!

Science Lab

I know the blog is on Science Lab but unfortunatley I had to go to softball. Anyways, yesterday in Science Lab, I learned about pretroleum, oil, and natural gas. We watched an iformative video, which was also very funny, about where and how we can find these three items. After the video, abut half the class recieved little cards to read aloud. We learned about the oil spills and such things from these. Maybe next week I will make it to Computer Lab!

Science Lab

Today in Science Lab, I learned about different natural resources by labeling them on a sheet. A few of the sources we found were sand, pebbles, and farming/drinking water. Not only did we find out about the product itself but we also learned about it's use in everyday life. For example, we found that sand is used to make glass, a commonly used item. After learning all of these different resources, my eyes were opened and I realized we don't notice how many resources are used throughout an average day. I will be sure to remember that next time I eat ice cream, there will most likely be seaweed in it.

Computer Lab

Today in Computer Lab we learned about an awesome program where kids like me could learn about world hunger. There were six missions, or levels,  which required the ability to overcome many obstacles like changing tires in a fast manner when you are delivering food to the villages or measuring the correct amount of food. This experience proved to me that it is possible to survive off just 30 cents a day. It showed me that I am fortunate to have a meal on the table everyday and be healthy. This experience really opened my eyes to the reality of the world we are living in.

Computer Lab

Today in computer lab, we learned about an incredible computer no larger than a credit card. You can plug your television cord, keyboard, and phone charger in and BAM! Your television just temporarily turned into a computer. This portable device can be purchased for just $35. This model is the alpha model and the creators are planning to come out with another version where the device will be encased in a clear plastic. It is something that every avid computer user should have.

The Hunger Games

The Hunger Games

Pages: 374
By: Suzanne Collins
Your trapped in an arena with 23 other people trying to hunt you down. You must always watch your back and show no mercy. This is how Katniss Everdeen feels after she volunteered to take her sisters place in the annual hunger games. The hunger games takes 12 girls and 12 boys between the ages of 12 and 18 from each district to fight each other until there is only 1 alive. After a series of interviews and training classes, she is put in the arena. This book shows imagery through making you feel as if you're in the arena seeing the gruesome sights Katniss is. Overall, this is an intense, vividly told series that everyone should have a chance to read.

Computer lab!

Today in computer lab, we were shown many different sites about learning new things. Two of the main sites were Khan academy and Wonderopolis. Khan academy, which our class is very familiar with, helps all ages learn math skills. Solman Khan has thousands of videos teaching skills from basic to extremely advanced. Wonderopolis on the other hand, is a site where there are tons of random questions answering just about any question you can think of such as what is an aglet through hilarious videos. you just have to ask a question and Wonderopolis will answer them for you! These sites help me to understand that learning things can be fun!!!

  The Bad Beginning
Author: Lemony Snicket
Pages:162

In this nail biting series you will follow three children, Violet, Klaus, and Sunny Baudelaire as they try to escape the grasp of Count Olaf, their evil enemy. The Bad Beginning, by Lemony Snicket,is an exciting book where a group of three orphans find themselves in the clutches of an evil guardian,Count Olaf. He will do just about anything to try to take the Baudelaire's massive fortune away. But it seems whenever the children get close to catching him, he slips away.
Count Olaf is definitely an evil person in this book. He locked poor little Sunny in a cage and hung it 20 feet above the ground. Count Olaf tried to force Violet to marry him so he could steal their huge amount of money. Count Olaf reminds me of the Grinch by the way he tries to steal things away from innocent people. In order to find out what happens to the orphans you will have to read this interesting book.
